Sami Zayn, the current WWE Intercontinental Champion had previously said that the Ladder Match for WWE Intercontinental Championship against AJ Styles and Jeff Hardy at Clash of Champions pay-per-view was one of his favourite matches in recent years. Now, he opened up who came up with the idea of the match.
Sami Zayn names Jamie Noble for the idea
During an interview with Metro UK, Sami Zayn revealed that Jamie Noble, the former wrestler and who is a backstage producer was the man behind the idea of the match.
“I wish I could take all the credit for that, but actually Jamie Noble’s a real genius. He doesn’t get the credit he deserves.”
The match saw an out of the box ending to it with Jeff Hardy’s earlobe handcuffed to a ladder, while AJ Styles had his wrist handcuffed to Zayn and later a different ladder. The match ended with Zayn retrieving the Intercontinental Championship title.
Reflecting on the match, Zayn said:
“I think it was a really good match, and I’m really proud of it.It had what I like about wrestling, which is a little bit of everything. There was a lot of character work, there was a lot of just good in ring action, some spectacular stunts, and some dramatic storytelling. That’s the cocktail I like about pro wrestling. I like when many different elements come together, and that’s what I feel like that match was, for me.”
