Anything involving potentially defective fuel tanks needs to be taken seriously and this case is no exception. BMW claims the failed weld between the tank halves could allow fuel to leak, an increased fire risk when there’s an ignition source. There’s already a solution: a complete fuel tank replacement.
Z4s built from June 26, 2019 to July 9, 2020 and Supras completed from April 19, 2019 through July 16, 2020 are affected by the recall and BMW owners will begin to be notified shortly. Only a very small number of vehicles are involved, 14 Z4s and 35 Supras, to be exact.
